MOVE OUT INFORMATION

All information that is provided on this page has been sent to tenants via email and delivered to their unit as a hard copy. If you did not receive the information please contact the office. All leases expire at 8:00 AM on July 25th, 2024. Your rental unit must be fully cleaned and ALL belongings moved out by that time.


Please review the following to ensure you're prepared for move out:

  • Plan Ahead for Moving

    Plan ahead of time and if you need a U-Haul or storage pod reserve it well in advance. Ames turns over the majority of their apartments during the same time period, these book up very quickly!


    CubeSmart, Pods, Risco Storage, West Ames Security Storage are a few storage unit options we recommend reaching out to if needed.

  • Rent

    All rent and additional charges must be paid in full. Your last month of rent is due July 1st. If you have autopay set up you will need to cancel it after your July payment has been submitted. You will need to manually do that through your online portal. We are unable to stop or cancel payments and will not be responsible for any fees if you fail to do so.

  • Utilities

    Utilities are required to remain on in your unit through the end of your lease (July 25th, 2024). It's beneficial to contact your utility provider ahead of time to set a stop service date. This helps the providers and prevents you from any possible charges. Unique Apartment Homes will not be responsible for utility charges after the 25th of July if you fail to take them out of your name.

  • Change of Address

    Fill out a change of address form with the Post Office so any and all mail will be forwarded to the correct address. You are able to do this online or at any USPS location. 


    Ensure that any reoccurring deliveries are updated with your new address. We recommend deleting your old address so you do not accidentally send a package to your old address. Unique Apartment Homes is not liable for any misdelivered packages or mail after the time of move-out.

  • Internet Equipment

    Internet equipment that was already in the unit at the time of your move-in, DO NOT REMOVE FROM THE UNIT. Metronet and Mediacom equipment should never be removed from the unit. Any missing equipment will be charged at the tenant's expesne. This also applies to any TV's and remote controls that came with the unit. TV's should be hung in their original place upon move in. 


    Metronet

    The router located in your unit must not be removed or moved from the spot Metronet installed it. Tenants will be charged for any missing equipment at the time of move out. If your unit changed the WiFi name to something other than your unit address you are required to contact Metronet to have that changed back. All units found to have invalid WiFi names will be charged.


    Mediacom

    All equipment must STAY IN THE UNIT. Tenants will be charged for any equipment missing at the time of move out.

  • Key Return

    All keys need to be returned to the Unique Apartment Home Office (2408 Chamberlain St #101, Ames) by 8:00 AM on July 25th. 


    Keys cannot be left in the unit. All keys must be placed inside the provided labeled envelope that states tenant names & unit address. These items include, if applicable, unit key(s), mail key, key fob(s), laundry key, and building key(s). All keys must be returned together. If people are moving out at different times, they will need to give their keys to the resident moving out last for them to turn in to the office. DO NOT mail keys! This is for your benefit as keys get lost in the mail easily especially due to the weight in the postal sorting machine.


    The envelope was dropped off at your unit, please verify with your roommates if you are unsure of where it may be. We will not replace the envelope so be sure to keep it in an area it won't be misplaced.


    If we do not receive all the keys or they are not labeled, we will have to change the lock which you will be charged for. 

  • Garages / Parking Passes

    Garage remote openers are to be left in the corresponding garages. Please DO NOT turn those in with your keys. Tenant's that fail to do this will be charged for a new garage remote.


    All parking passes that do NOT have an expiration date must be turned in to the office. 

  • Security Deposit Return Form

    Security deposits will be refunded via e-check to the primary tenant within 30 days of the end of your lease agreement. 


    The security deposit return form will be sent to each unit electronically. Each tenant that is on the lease at the time of lease-end must sign the form releasing the funds to the primary tenant within your unit. 


    The primary tenant is automatically selected at random within our system. We will request bank information from this person after the form has been signed.


    The form must be submitted even if you have a $0 security deposit on file. It will need to be signed by all current tenants in the unit by May 10th. Unique Apartment Homes reserves the right to hold all deposits for units that do not submit their form on time.


    Early Move-Outs: If you are in need of moving out early, we do have specific instructions. Please call the office to discuss this process. We only do one check-out inspection of the unit, so if mulitple people are residing in the unit and not all are moving out early we cannot process a preliminary or early inspection. 


    Partial Move-Out: If some residents chose to renew and had roommates moving out, then we will do room check-outs. The bedroom & bathroom used by the resident(s) moving out will need to be empty and cleaned top to bottom. The common areas should be picked up and clean but do not need to be spotless. We will look at the flooring and walls in those areas and if there are any damages or excessive wear and tear please contact the office prior to moving out. We strongly suggest the kitchen applicances are cleaned prior to any new roommates moving in. 

  • Cleaning

    Cleaning of the unit must be completed by the time of move out. We encourage all tenants to use the cleaning checklist we provided. You can find this in the move out packet that was included in the move out email, delivered to your unit or download it below.


    It is beneficial for tenants to make a plan ahead of time to start cleaning the unit. Going room by room will help break it up and allow time to deep clean certain areas. It will also decrease the amount of cleaning needed on the day of move out. 

  • Maintenance Items

    Verify all light bulbs are working, including appliance bulbs. Replace any that have burnt out with 60W Daylight bulbs. Make sure all smoke detectors are working and attached to the ceiling. Make sure that batteries are all working or replaced (door keypads, thermostats, garage remotes, garage keypads, etc.) Dripping faucets and running toilets need to be submitted to maintenance. 


    Any and all other maintenance requests must be submitted prior to July 10th. Tenants will be charged at the time of move out for any missing, damaged or broken items.

This was emailed to all units that have a scheduled move out for July 25th. Please be sure to review and use the information provided to prepare your unit for move out. If you have roommates, make sure everyone has read through these. If you have friends or family helping you move please send them this information!
